The classic saying of “the best defense is a good offense” certainly rings true when it comes to oral hygiene! Regular teeth check-ups and cleanings are vital in the maintenance of good oral health, and our team of dental hygienists offer top quality care for you and your family’s teeth!

In addition to regular flossing and brushing at home, your teeth require periodical professional cleaning to help prevent tooth decay and gum disease. The hygienist will asses your current brushing and flossing techniques, and help determine any changes that can be made to help better prevent tooth decay.

Regular hygiene visits are important to detect tooth decay and periodontal issues – both of which, if caught early on, can be easily treated. Leaving these issues will cause larger problems down the road, including cavities, infection, gum swelling, and loss of bone structure.

A scaling instrument is used by our hygiene team during a regular dental visit to remove plaque and calculus above and below the gum line. Removing the plaque and calculus helps to prevent inflammation, which could otherwise lead to advancement of periodontal disease. Periodontal disease begins with plaque formation on your teeth both above and below the gum line. This causes inflammation and swelling of gum tissue and eventually leads to bone disease and loss of bone structure.

During your dental visit, our dentist may identify certain teeth that are prone to decay. A common preventative measure is the use of sealants. Food and plaque become trapped on the surface of your teeth every day, and the bacteria cause decay if the plaque is not removed. Sealants are placed in the pits and fissures of the teeth, and cured to create a barrier to food and plaque. Once sealants are in place, they are an effective barrier against decay in the deep pits and fissures of your teeth.

Whether you have had regular check-ups over the years or are in need of a long overdue cleaning, let us know! We can get you set up with a regular cleaning schedule to help prevent tooth decay and gum disease!
