If you’re eligible, you can apply to the program. The steps to do so are:

  4. Confirmation will be sent, as well as further information on how to proceed with using your coverage
  5. You can set up an appointment for treatment with your dentist!

Treatment: What is Covered?

Knowing what treatments are covered under the plan will help you feel more prepared when the time comes to book or attend an upcoming appointment. Common services that are covered include, but are not limited to:

  • Preventative Care and Diagnostics: fluoride treatment, teeth cleanings, dental exams, x-rays, dental sealants
  • Restorative Care: Dental fillings, restoring cracked teeth
  • Endodontics: Root canal therapy, pulpectomies

Keep in mind that you may require pre-approval for some services to be covered. Examples include dental sedation, crowns, and certain styles of dentures. Talk with your dentist and Sun Life, the insurance service provider through which the CDCP coverage is provided.

How the CDCP Impacts Your Oral Health

What many people may not realize is that the Canadian Dental Care Plan is more than just insurance coverage – it’s a method of accessibility and a support system that enables patients to get the care they not only need but rightfully deserve. Some of the primary advantages are:

  • Promotes good oral hygiene. When patients can visit the dentist without worrying about finances, they can focus on their dental health, thereby preventing infections, gum disease, and decay
  • Saves you money. Preventative treatments cost less than restorative care
